Straker’s Records is a New York label founded by Granville Straker of St. Vincent.
Straker ran a record store and car service at 613 Nostrand Avenue, and would sell a selection of both American and imported Caribbean releases. He began recording and issuing records in 1971 and soon became a key player in the ascendance of soca music, with several record stores in Brooklyn. Arranger and pianist Frankie McIntosh became the label's music director in 1978.
Soca dominates the label's output, but some reggae records were also issued on Straker’s, produced by Lloyd Charmers and Glen Adams.
The scope of this discography is limited to the earliest releases on the label, up until around 1978. The label went on to release hundreds more records and CDs in the 1980s and 1990s.
