Decca

With the help of local businessman Eduardo Sa Gomes, the U.S. branch of Decca began recording local calypsonians during the 1935 carnival season. Initially calypsonians were sent to New York City for the recordings, but Decca brough equipment to the island in 1938 to make on-the-spot recordings at a studio set up at 58 Frederick Street.

The complete Decca recordings (including many releases that were originally banned by censors) from 1938–40 are available in a 10-CD box set by Bear Family Records, West Indian Rhythm.
